What to look for in a carpenter or contractor
Contractors
Be sure to ask the contractor if they will be subcontracting the carpentry, electrical, or plumbing work out to a reputable company. For a plumber or electrician to carry insurance they will need a master license number. No number = No insurance or permits. The contractor may tell you that the job is easy and nothing that can go wrong. Remember Murphy’s Law, what can go wrong will go wrong. Problems can occur on the smallest of jobs if not performed correctly costing more in time and money.
Carpentry
At Ken’s Custom Carpentry, there’s no mistake where my skills lie, carpentry. My goal is a customer who is happy with my work. I’m not going to attempt services that I am not capable of performing at a professional level. Whether I’m doing a rec. room or remodeling an addition. All the proper steps will be done right down to permitting. Estimates are free and I encourage getting more than one estimate. I will even take the time to go over quotes, comparing apples to apples. Most reputable companies in the area are similar in price, if one quote comes back substantially lower than the rest usually something has been left out.

There are many individuals claiming to be a one-stop shop for all your household repairs from plumbing to electrical and even carpentry. There is debate on the number of hours it takes to be good at something but when it comes to carpentry, is it better to hire an individual who has spread their hours over many different types of trades or to hire a carpenter that has focused their skills on one.
